In May of 2018, after the arrest of two black men in a Philadelphia Starbucks went viral, Schultz rolled out racial bias training across his stores and made a new, more welcoming, sweeping policy. At the onset, “Starbucks executive chairman Howard Schultz said earlier this month that he understands the policy’s drawbacks, but that he didn’t want anyone to feel as if they were “less than.”
“We don’t want to become a public bathroom, but we’re going to make the right decision 100 percent of the time and give people the key,” Mr. Schultz said. This pleased the leftists for sure.
Starbucks was allowing people (anyone for any reason) to use their stores and restrooms even if they were not customers. This resulted in many Starbucks locations being overrun with drug users, and drug paraphernalia. So much so, that employees started voicing concerns about their safety. In fact, over 100 stores have voted to unionize since late 2021. It has become so bad recently, that Schultz announced that Starbucks is closing 16 stores.
All of the closings are in democrat run cities. Six stores will close in Greater Los Angeles; six in Greater Seattle; two in Portland, Oregon; one in Philadelphia and one in D.C. Now it seems that Schultz has had a good dose of reality. Leaning so far left has resulted in him having to close stores that are still profitable! This is unheard of in the business world. The reason for the closures is concerns over safety. That’s right. It is not good for business. Now apparently, none are welcome because the store will be boarded up.
According to the New York Post, Schultz has something to say to the democratic politicians and leaders in these cities. In a video interview, he said, “Democratic mayors and city councils have “abdicated their responsibility” in fighting crime and addressing mental illness, which has forced his company to shutter stores due to fears over employee safety.”
